Delta 10" Tilting Arbor Unisaw (1948)

Accuracy -- Long Life -- Convenience with a Delta Unisaw

The Delta Milwaukee 10" Tilting Arbor Circular Saw was completely self-contained, motor and driving mechanism being enclosed in a strong steel cabinet type base. The saw was 20 x 27 inches (with wings 27 x 36 inches), it cut up to 50 inches wide and 3 1/8" thick.

The saw blade tilted 45 degrees to the right, operation being effected by a large convenient hand wheel. The blade was raised and lowered by another hand wheel at the front of the machine. Dado heads, moulding cutters and many other attachments could be used. The carriage swings on trunnions that are large, heavy and strong and completely machined.

The Rip-Fence bar extends over the rear edge of the table many inches past the rear of the saw blade. The fence los both front and rear, the rear lock begin operated from the front of the fence. . The fence could be used on both sides of the saw blade. The guide bars allow the fence to be moved 25 inches to the right of the saw blade and 15 inches to the left of the saw blade. The front guide bar is graduated in inches for quick setting of the fence.

The saw arbor bracket is a very heavy casting, with accurately machined teeth to fit the raising and lowering worm gear, with accurate stop to limit up and down travel. the casting is mounted on a very heavy keyed shaft where it can be adjusted and locked to bring the saw arbor flange into exact alignment.

The shaft is carried in two sealed-for-life ball bearings, mounted in diamond bored bearing seats.

Super-Safe Guard Provides Protection

The No. 1471 "Super-Safe" splitter-mounted guard is anchored directly to the arbor-bracket so that when the saw is tilted the guard follows the saw -- shus complete protection is always assured no matter at what angle the saw is set. Provides maximum protection because it combines basket, splitter and kickback fingers in one unit. Easily removed for Dadoing and Moulding cutter work.

Cast Iron Motor Cover

The saw was equipped with a cast iron motor cover that completely enclosed the opening in which the motor swings, and provides an additional safety factor for the machine when used in schools. The cover was readily attached to the cabinet.
No. 1454. Motor cover with screws.

Unisaw Features

Massive True-Running Arbor: The Unisaw arbor was an accurately ground shaft with a large flange. Even the arbor thread is specially designed being modified Acme thread having a large flat surface so that it will accurately center the saw blade, cutter heads, etc. Runs in sealed-for-life ball bearings accurately pre-loaded.

Heavy Trunnions Insure Perfect Alignment: Mounted carefully on the heavy gusset plates of the cabinet, in such a way as to provide complete admustment, the trunnions that carry teh saw carriage are of exceptionally heavy construction, and are completeley machined from fine grained cast iron.

Rigid Double Lock Rip Fence: Rip Fence extends from teh front clear over the rear edge of the table. Quick-acting cam and lever lock at front locks the fence at both the front and back. The rip fence bar is of welded construction and equipped with micrometer adjustment. It can be used on both sides of the blade.

Large Cast Iron Table With Extensions: The Unisaw includes a large saw table with wings that are scientifically ribbed to prevent warping and springing. The clearance of the saw mechanisms do not cut away any of the essential ribs. This meant that you got a true, flat, saw table on which to produce accurate week.

Controls are Convenient and Safe: Controsls on this saw make operation fast and easy. Big sturdy handwheels located at convenient height for easy access to operator. No interference between controls... no close quarters... no skinned knuckles. Large knobs in the center of the handwheels lock the mechanism securely.

Famous 3-Belt Drive: Users all motor power and eliminates vibration. This produces smooth operation.
