4" Homecraft jointer

I just bought this jointer this week for $20. It has new bearings, but did not come with a stand or motor. It was a Craigslist find. From the serial number it looks like a 1952 vintage, which makes it almost as old as me.

This is my first jointer, so I have a couple of questions.
