Big!... Rugged!... Built to Last!... These were the qualities that every user wanted and got in the 1963 Delta 15" Utility Drill Press. It was a man-sized machine designed for heavy duty production work--perfect for schools and commercial wood or metalworking shops, yet priced right down to the small shop budget.
You received Delta Quality construction throughout including lubricated-for-life ball bearings... dynamicaly balanced spindle pulley... floating spindle drive... a big 2" quill... a full 4 7/16" quill stroke and many other important features
The low price tag of the Delta 15" Utility Drill Press didn't mislead buyers. It capably handled many of the production jobs ordinarily done by heavy, fixed machines. It could easily be moved in and out of the production line to relieve production bottlenecks. And it offered the job versatility required in commercial and school shops.
Floor Model
The floor model was equipped with a standard table (a tilting table was available as an accessory) and a full belt guard. It was also available with either a high or slo-speed and a 1/2" key chuck.
Bench Model
The bench model was equipped with a standard table (a tilting table was available as an accessory) and a full belt guard. It was also available with either a high or slo-speed and a 1/2" key chuck.
Full Belt Guard - Full length and counter-balanced, the full belt guard swung up, out of the way for easy speed changing. It covered the pulleys completely and gave complete protection.
Quick Change Spindle Adapter - The Delta 15" Utility Drill Press was equipped with one of six interchangeable spindle adaptors that could be changed in seconds for dozens of operations varying from metal drilling to wood shaping.
Pivoting Motor Mounting Plate - The motor was mounted on a pivoting motor mounting plate that permitted quick belt tension for easy speed changes. A spring-loaded plunger, with reverse taper lock held the belt tension constant.
Many-Purpose Work Table - The work table had side ledges and slots to facilitiate the clamping of work to the table. Its accurately ground surface permited drilling to close tolerances.
Other Important Delta Features that were available on the 15" Utility Drill press included:
A choice of high speed--slow speed--floor or bench model---and a front or full hinged guard.
6 Spindle adapters that provided unequalled versatility
Delta Quality construction throughout.
A husky 2" quill for rigid spindle support
Easy adjustment to compensate for quill wear
An extra large spindle pulley bearing.
A floating drive that trasmitted torque with no belt pull on the spindle
And a provision in the head for an accessory Push Button Switch to provide maximum safety and convenience for the operator.
