Powermatic Model 160 Planer

Powermatic Model 160 Planer

I have a model 160 Powermatic planer which is very good, it does everything I need, I have cut 7000 bd.ft of oak from my property and have surfaced a good portion of it, I am not sure today's machinery would stand up to the test.

I have an extra head with gibs and a grinding attachment which I would like to sale, let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks

Powermatic Planer Setup
by: Larry

I recently bought a Powermatic 160 planer. It has a 5 hp 3 phase motor. When I first got it it wouldn't feed lumber. Adjusting the machine using the instructions in the manual was a little intimidating at first. Then I found a video on youtube of a guy adjusting his 180 planer. It's the same as the 160 I think except it's 18" wide. After watching his video a couple of times I made the adjustments and now it's working great! That guy does a great job in the video. I'd highly recommend checking it out.

Good luck.

Powermatic 160
by: unbob

If the chip breaker is hanging up the feed, or there is a snipe problem. The machine is out of adjustment. It takes the proper gages to set the machine correctly. Always best to read the manual for the machine.

re grinding attachment
by: Anonymous

Hi Ray This is Bill Blackburn in Hazelton bc canada. I have a model 160 for sale right now. Its 3 phase and I'll need to sell it or buy a new motor. If i do keep it i'd like a sharpener. I have no idea what the shipping would be. But do you still have it, is it in good working order, and how much are you asking.
Thanks

Powermatic 160 Planer
by: Ray Swank

Zach;

In response to your questions on the 160 Planer I have the similar problem, I to have to hole up the chip breaker, but normally the board does not stop but it does make a snipe on the last 4 inches, I have just learn to live with it.

I still have the grinder abd the extra head for sale. Sorry I couldn't be of any help!!!

Powermatic Model 160 Planer Questions
by: Zach Elkins

I have a Powermatic 160 myself. I have some questions maybe you can relate to. My 160 has an issue with the chip breaker stopping the material as it is fed through. When this happens I have to lift up on the chip breaker handle to release its hold on the wood. Somehow the forward motion of the material creates downward pulling pressure stopping the feed. I have read the manual and set the machine up according to Powermatics specs. Have you experienced anything like this on your 160 and if so have you been able to correct it?
I was also wondering it you still have the grinder attachment and extra head for sale.
Thanks,
Zach
