Walker Turner Floor Mount Drill Press

Walker Turner Floor Mount Drill Press

The first picture I sent was terrible so here's a better one. I found this for $35.00. Very rusted but the internal machined parts and essentials are clean and work well. Don't know if it is the OEM motor but it turns great. It stands over six feet. S/N 1 944.

So I guess this is a 900 series? How do you measure a drill press? I see ones that say they are 15" or 20". What is this measurement?

Thanks

Bob

Belt Replacement on Walker Turner Drill Press
by: strano54

The belt is removed from the spindle sheave by removing the stop nuts on the depth gauge and lowering the spindle until it is flush with the top of the cone pulley and then just remove the belt and slip on the new one. Release the handle of the drill press and replace the thumb nuts. Done!

Walker Turner Floor Model Drill Press

I have the same drill press that I inherited from my father after he passed away. We had it in our garage workshop since early 1950s. I was born in 1954 and can't remember not having it. It was the first power tool that I had the guts to use w/o my fathers permission! How many times I almost hurt myself because I was a kid and didn't follow or know the basic safety rules of running a drill press!(parts not properly clamped for example)!I believe that my father used this same machine in a machine shop business before it made its way home. The drill press still has its original manufacturers tags on it. I just got done refurbishing it. I am emotionally attached to it! I am in the process of putting together my basement shop and it is the first piece to get the "treatment"! The plate on the base reads "9D1040"?
I think that the 9 could be for 1949. 1040 for the IRS!

Drill Press Measurment
by: Anonymous

A drill press size is determined by the distance from the center of the spindle to the front of the column or it is the maximum size piece of work that you can drill a hole in the center of.
If it is 6" from the center of the spindle to the column it is a 12" drill press.
