Moran or Morin?

Can anyone identify this item? It appears to be part of an antique wood working tool, possibly some type of plane accessory. There are several marks including the name which are somewhat obscured by corrosion & wear. As follows: Possible name; Moran, or Morin? Date 1916, Origin; Seattle?, also: pat. MCH, 14

Morin Filing Tool
by: Dean Seaberg

The item in the picture is a tool in itself. It goes by a variety of names including "cleaner tooth gauge" "depth gauge" and "raker gauge". The tool is used to set the depth of the rakers in relation to the height of the cutter teeth on cross cut saws used for timber felling and bucking prior to chain saws. The saws were commonly known as "misery whips". The tool is made by S.J. Morin
