Speed ratios
by: Kevin Shellman

Just got my drill press working again. Replaced the v-belt and noticed that on the front and rear spindles there are 4 different size pulleys. Can anyone tell me the speeds for each set of pulleys? Currently the belt is on the bottom set of pulleys and I’d like to know the speed of the chuck.

Drill Press Quill return
by: Andrew

Sorry to get back to you all so late. Thanks for the advice, I haven't taken it apart yet - from the manual - the pinion shaft looks like it is all one piece. If it separates and a threaded rod is all that is needed - that would be easy to fix.

Quil return gear
by: Jeston

Actually I made a while return gear, not the spring, from an acme threaded rod. eBay is probably your best bet. If you can spec out the coil spring you may be able to just find one close enough.

I made one out of a piece of acme thread rod. Worked great. I still have some rod I could send you a chunk

Quill Return Spring
by: Andrew

I see that someone was looking for a quill return spring for their drill... did you ever find this? I too have the same drill (recently purchased) and it needs the same. Please post if you did or if someone knows of where to find a replacement.

Quill Adjustment Screw
by: Jeston

Can anyone tell me the diameter and thread of the quill adjustment screw P/N DP-527? Just grabbed one of these drill presses and it is the only functional part that is missing. Is also missing the original switch plate so if anyone is parting one out I would be interested.
Thanks,
Jeston

Rockwell 15-017 Drill press spindle thread
by: John

I’m replacing old chuck with Jacobs 44-33C33 chuck. Had a terrible time getting the old chuck off. Damaged threads on spindle. Will have to use die or thread file to clean up threads. What is the thread size on spindle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quill replacement spring

Does any know the length of the quill return spring for this drill press. Need to replace mine and haven't been able to locate a replacement spring. Where can I purchase a new spring and housing? Thanks, Dean

Missing manual
by: Andrew in Portland

Comments here going back 10 years indicate that there is a PDF of the manual floating around. I would love it if someone would send it to me! Better still, is it not possible to post it here?

Please text me on 203 903 1669.

I just bought one of these presses. After 50 years, the runout is less than .002. I just wish that there was a rock and pinion on the table; mine has a clamp and a smooth post.

I’m going to add an up-front magnetic switch with a big STOP button. Right now the only switch is a tiny toggle on the motor.

Quill Tension screw
by: John

Since I posted the question i bought a tension screw. The gentlemen sent me two. If you need one let me know.

Quill tension
by: Anonymous

Mine is missing the adjusting screw that mounts up through the bottom of the housing that would turn the spring tension housing using the gear teeth on the outer rim. The jam nuts do not do anything but prevent the housing from working loose.

mechanism for raising drill
by: John

I bought this drill press and tried to adjust the spring tension for the handle. When I loosen the double nut arrangement, it just binds. It seems like the spring adjustment mechanism should connect to the housing to work properly. Does any one have ant pictures of how this should work?

Answer to Phil's Request for a Wiring Diagram 15-017
by: Clay

Dear Phil, why would you need a wiring diagram for a 15-017 drill press? Well, OK. Let me just give you a verbal on it, because all it is is this. The three wires in the cord, white, black and green go to the switch. The black wire goes to one side of the switch. The green wire is grounded to the metal of the press. The white wire is wired direct to the white wire that it in the same kind of rubber cord that goes to the motor connections. The black wire in the motor cable goes to the OTHER SIDE of the Single Pole Single Throw switch. The green wire in the motor cable goes to the grounded connection on the press to the motor grounded connection, usually a free screw in the motor connection box. Man, that's all there is to it unless you are dealing with something I can't figure out.

Need Copy of Owner's Manual Rockwell 15-017 Drill Press
by: Don

I inherited this drill press from my late father's estate, and wish now (like so many sons) that I had paid more attention to the old man's ramblings about learning to use and maintain it while he was still alive.

In short: does anyone have a copy of an Owner's Manual for it?

removing the chuck
by: patrick o'dea

i recently purchased this drill press. all other drill presses i've owned simply required the tapping of a forked wedge between the spindle and the chuck, to remove the chuck.

this one doesn't want to come off and i'm afraid to use too much force. is this one different? if so, what do i do to remove the chuck?

please email odeaone@cox.net

thank you.
